“Clementine saw the blackness of the moon encircled by the corona’s gossamer glow with her heart, her mind, her entire being. She saw the people around her in a different light now, too. What did they see? Could they see anything at all? Or were they blinded, confused, like the ancient Greeks, who believed the eclipse meant the sun would soon abandon the Earth, or the Chippewas, who shot flaming arrows at the sky to rekindle its celestial fire?”
