KARK reports a motorist died in a crash on Highway 67-167 during a chase by Jacksonville police Thursday night.
The driver was chased after a stop by officers who wanted to investigate a fictitious license tag and a broken taillight.
He reportedly drove away after he was stopped and officers found he was being sought on a warrant issued by the state parole board. He refused to get out of the car and drove off.
Discovery of an outstanding warrant is an issue in this case, of course. We don’t yet know the nature of the warrant. But this and the recent Akron case and many others raise the question of police policies related to chases, particularly stemming from traffic violations.
The State Police will investigate.
