Downtown Little Rock’s annual food truck festival, which has been known as the Main Street Food Truck Festival since its debut in 2011, is packing up and heading about a mile west.
Arkansas Business reported Monday that the 13th annual festival is being rebranded as the Downtown Food Truck Festival and will take place on Capitol Avenue between Woodlane and Chester streets near the Arkansas State Capitol.
Gabe Holmstrom, executive director of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, told the business publication that the organization is building on the success of the Main Street Food Truck Festival.
From Arkansas Business:
“When it started, there weren’t any restaurants there, and there were minimal businesses on that corridor,” Holmstrom said, noting Main Street from the heart of downtown up to SoMa is now full of restaurants and other businesses. “Fourteen years later, we’re going to pick up and move to see if we can’t bring that same excitement and energy to Capitol Avenue.”
A press release from the Downtown Little Rock Partnership sent out Tuesday also points out that the new location is roomier, with wider streets that organizers hope will better accommodate the crowd. Plus, they said, the move will “bring energy to another part of our city.”
Capitol Avenue is also a focus area of the Downtown Master Plan, Holmstrom noted in the release.
“Our hope is that bringing thousands of people together to the area will again spark new ideas and interest for one of our state’s most important streets,” Holmstrom said.
The Downtown Food Truck Festival takes place on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Organizers expect a total of 70 food trucks, as well as 70-plus artists, musicians and entertainers. Those interested in volunteering or sponsorship packages can visit the festival’s website for more information.
