James McMickle, born in 1948 in Oneida, served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. An enlisted man, he held the rank of Specialist E-4. During his service, from June 18, 1969, to July 2, 1971, he served on patrols that discovered enemy weapons caches and was wounded in action. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
