We take a break from our regular kvetching to join the governor in hyping a pilot program to keep students from fiddling with their phones all day.

On Tuesday afternoon, Gov. Sarah Sanders sent word of a new pilot program schools can sign up for that will provide some sort of newfangled pouches that somehow keep the kids from getting to their phones. They can carry them all day, but the idea is that the pouches remain closed.

We’re not sure what kinds of pouches we’re talking — that information wasn’t included in the governor’s press release, and the press team hasn’t responded to our question — but we suspect they might be one of these Yondr contraptions. They’re similar to those plastic tags clipped into expensive clothes in the mall, in that they require a special tool to open. Childish Gambino and Dave Chappell recommend them for shows, but they’re marketed for schools, too. Students would pop their phones in the bag in the morning, and they would stay locked in there through the day. Openers would likely be mounted near schools’ doors so students could unlock their bags on the way out at day’s end.

Here’s the gov’s letter. We don’t hate it!
