From the Morning News: The Springdale Library resists efforts to strip shelves of some PG-13 movies. Next: The National Geographic collection and the likes of pix of the pope blessing a bare-breasted native.

Michelle Jordan objected to the movie “Songcatcher,” directed by Maggie Greenwald. The PG-13 movie about mountain folk music weaves in a lesbian love affair.

“The movie was extremely bent towards homosexuality being the norm and being an OK, socially acceptable way of life,” Jordan said. “I’m a Christian, and I believe firmly that it’s not healthy for our kids.”

Robert Bennett asked the board to take out “The Emerald Forest,” a movie about a father’s search for his son who was kidnapped in the Amazonian jungle. The film includes a scene with nude tribal children.

“I understand that in South America where it was filmed that is not illegal,” Bennett said. “But here in the United States, it is.”

All the library news in NWA isn’t good. Fayetteville, of all places, defeated a library tax tuesday.
