Conway Police Chief AJ Gary told the Conway City Council last night that he’ll leave the department Oct. 31 to become head of security for the Arkansas lottery, the Log Cabin Democrat reported.
The lottery hired Daryl Backes, former head of security for the Missouri lottery, about a year ago at $98,500 a year after the original director, Lance Huey, retired.
No info yet on how the job came to be open or what the pay will be. Checking.
UPDATE: A spokesman for the Department of Finance and Administration said BAckes resigned earlier this month. No information was provided on circumstances. Gary will be paid $100,479.81. The spokesman said the resignation was for personal reasons and was not requested by the agency.
PS — Democrat-Gazette reports the job wasn’t advertised. Why? Gov. Asa Hutchinson recommended Gary. Enough said.
