The new piece of machinery is sort of a hybrid between a grill and a smoker, pitmaster Grant Hall said. The rig features a flipper, or turning rack, which is essentially a cooking grate mounted on a rotating spit within the unit that allows the operator to flip the hog from one side to another.

Mysterious barbecue pits appear downtown on Markham Street
Upon inspection Tuesday night, the barbecue pits appear to be 1000-gallon offset smokers made by Primitive Pits out of Coal Mountain, Georgia — the same ones used by Knightfire Craft Barbecue in Searcy, Ray’s Rump Shack in Jonesboro, and Ridgewood Brothers BBQ in Russellville.
